Lloyd Doggett, a seasoned politician currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district, recently took to social media to express his views on current legislative matters. His tweets provide insight into his stance on significant political issues and ongoing efforts in education.
On May 18, 2025, Doggett announced his appearance on MSNBC’s “The Weekend” at 8 AM Central to discuss former President Trump’s and Republicans’ proposed legislation. He criticized the bill as “one big beautiful bill,” which he described as an “ugly lie that increases our national debt by trillions and gives tax breaks to billionaires by cutting food and health assistance to millions.”
Later that day, Doggett highlighted a meeting of the Budget Committee scheduled for 10 PM. In his tweet, he emphasized Republican efforts to advance what he termed “Trump’s big bill of lies” that would purportedly strip healthcare from millions of Americans while providing tax breaks for billionaires. He specifically pointed out the impact Medicaid cuts could have on seniors.
In another tweet posted on May 18, Doggett commemorated the sixtieth anniversary of Head Start, a program designed to enhance early education and child care access for children and families. He expressed gratitude towards @AustinISD and @ChildIncTX for their service in Travis County each year. Doggett reaffirmed his commitment “to help our youngest learners reach their” potential.
Lloyd Doggett has served in Congress since replacing J.J. Pickle in 1995 after serving in the Texas Senate from 1973-1985. Born in Austin, Texas, in 1946, Doggett graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with both a BA (1967) and JD (1970).
