Lloyd Doggett, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district, has recently voiced his concerns on social media regarding several political issues. Known for his active participation in legislative matters since replacing J.J. Pickle in 1995, Doggett continues to engage with pressing topics affecting both his constituents and the broader American public.
On May 7, 2025, Doggett criticized Ken Paxton’s actions concerning educational policies. He stated that “Last week, Paxton dropped a suit against Coppell ISD for ‘critical race theory’ over a heavily edited/misleading video. Now, he targets Austin ISD.” He further expressed concern that instead of addressing significant issues such as teacher shortages, taxpayer money is being spent on what he describes as “pandering & self-promotion.”
Later that day, Doggett addressed healthcare policy in another post. He claimed that “Republicans plan to rip affordable health care away from millions of Americans to give billionaires and large corporations even more tax breaks.” Emphasizing the gravity of this situation, he declared it “unconscionable” and pledged to continue opposing what he termed a “dangerous plan.”
In a subsequent tweet on the same day, Doggett commented on fiscal policies associated with former President Donald Trump and his supporters in Congress. He remarked that “With Trump having boasted that he is ‘King of Debt,’ his House GOP enablers are borrowing trillions more to assure new tax breaks for Elon Musk and billionaire buddies.” He criticized their promotion of Trump’s financial legislation by highlighting their ongoing debate about increasing national debt.
Lloyd Doggett was born in Austin, Texas in 1946 and currently resides there at age 76. His educational background includes degrees from the University of Texas at Austin: a BA earned in 1967 and a JD obtained in 1970.
