Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 37th district, posted a series of statements on March 13, 2026, criticizing Pete Hegseth’s recent press conference and commenting on rising oil prices and military casualties.
In his first post from March 13, Doggett commented on Hegseth’s response to economic and military issues: “Recommend you watch Pete Hegseth’s press conference for an unmatched display of arrogance. Soaring oil prices nearing $100 per barrel? You “don’t need to worry about [that].” And when he finally addressed the additional servicemembers killed yesterday? “Bad things happen.” And”.
Later that day, Doggett focused on Hegseth’s criticism of the media: “At today’s press conference, Hegseth used most of his firepower to attack the American press, especially CNN. “The sooner that David Ellison takes over that network, the better.” Clearly, he foresees more suppression. His “patriotic press” is one that accepts Trump regime lies”.
In a third post from the same day, Doggett highlighted growing casualties in Iran: “The number of Americans lost in this unnecessary war of choice in Iran has risen to double digits. Our servicemembers are heroes, but in the rush to war, the first six of them should never have been lost from being left unprotected from Iranian attack.”
Doggett has served as a member of Congress since 1995 after replacing J. J. Pickle and previously represented Texas in the state senate between 1973 and 1985. He was born in Austin in 1946 and continues to reside there. In both the 2022 and 2024 general elections for Texas’ 37th district seat in Congress, Doggett defeated Jenny Garcia Sharon by wide margins—winning over 74% of votes each time.
Doggett holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin—a BA earned in 1967 and a JD obtained in 1970.
