Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 37th district since 1995, has recently voiced concerns on social media regarding the actions of former President Donald Trump and the current direction of Congressional appropriations. Doggett, who has a long tenure in public service and a legal background from the University of Texas at Austin, posted several statements on July 18, 2025.
In his first post, Doggett criticized recent decisions by the House of Representatives: “The GOP-controlled House gave a green light to Trump to brazenly use his Presidential powers to enrich himself and his crypto businesses at the expense of ordinary investors and our democracy. Later that day, he called for transparency regarding files related to Jeffrey Epstein: “If they’ve got nothing to hide, then Trump and AG Pam Bondi should immediately release the Epstein files. https://t.co/weBXNQNsjq” (July 18, 2025).
In another post on July 18, Doggett highlighted comments made by Russell Vought: “A top Trump advisor, his Office of Management and Budget Director, Russell Vought, declared, ‘The appropriations process has to be LESS bipartisan.’ And added that he would likely be insisting upon MORE legislation to rescind appropriations for which Congress previously gave”.
Doggett’s career in Congress began after replacing J.J. Pickle in 1995. He previously served in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985 and is known for his longstanding commitment to public service. Born in Austin in 1946 and currently residing there at age 76, Doggett holds both undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
