Lloyd Doggett, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district since 1995, shared his thoughts on recent political developments through a series of tweets on May 21, 2025. Doggett, who was born in Austin, Texas in 1946 and has served in various capacities including the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985, provided commentary on legislative proceedings and international affairs.
In a tweet posted on May 21, 2025, Doggett criticized the Republican Party’s handling of Trump’s legislative proposal referred to as “one, big, beautiful bill.” He stated that “they hide its ugly details under the cover of darkness,” highlighting how meetings by the Ways & Means and Energy & Commerce Committees extended overnight before the Budget Committee convened at 10:30.
On the same day, Doggett expressed sorrow over “the sudden passing today of my dear friend Rep. Gerry Connolly,” describing it as “a true loss to our country.” He praised Connolly as “a patriot who fought to preserve our democracy” and worked towards enhancing environmental policies and opportunities for disadvantaged Americans.
Later that day, Doggett addressed humanitarian concerns regarding Gaza in another tweet. On May 21, 2025, he condemned actions by Netanyahu which he claimed risked the lives of thousands of infants due to restricted aid access. Doggett stated that “14,000 babies risk death soon unless the blockade is fully lifted,” arguing against permitting limited aid entry after more than two months.
