Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 37th district since 1995, posted a series of critical tweets on July 21, 2025, addressing recent Republican policies and the actions of former President Donald Trump.
In his first post of the day, Doggett criticized Republican policy directions, writing on July 21: “Republicans lit a fuse to burn our planet, explode the deficit & set the health care system on fire. Millions now worry how they will feed their children and keep them healthy.
Important read on the despicable cruelty & betrayal of our democratic values. https://t.co/uX8Eb3SWDG“
Later that afternoon, Doggett addressed immigration issues under Trump-era policies. On July 21 he tweeted: “Another failure from Trump’s immigration policy—less care for seniors and individuals with disabilities at already understaffed nursing homes, as Trump demands deportation even for those providing vital services.

In his final tweet that evening, Doggett commented on environmental policy changes during Trump’s administration: “Trump is replacing science with mythology, the latest step closing the EPA’s research office. Restricting our ability to study toxic chemicals, climate change, pollution, and many other environmental threats will cost us lives.
Trump is the most anti-science, anti-environment”
Doggett has served in Congress since replacing J.J. Pickle in 1995 and previously held office in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. He was born in Austin in 1946 and continues to reside there. Doggett holds both a BA (1967) and JD (1970) from the University of Texas at Austin.
