Lloyd Doggett, a seasoned politician currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district, has been vocal about several pressing issues through his social media platform. His recent posts address significant concerns regarding educational funding and legislative actions impacting American citizens.
On July 3, 2025, Doggett expressed concern over the state of Texas schools facing closures due to what he describes as Governor Abbott’s underfunding of public education. He also highlighted that former President Trump is allegedly withholding $660 million in congressionally approved funds from classrooms, which threatens summer and after-school programs. Doggett termed this situation as “Even more GOP betrayal.”
Later that day, Doggett shared his opposition to a legislative proposal he referred to as the “Big Ugly Bill.” In a speech delivered at 3:35 in the morning on the House floor, he argued that this bill would deny healthcare to 17 million Americans, increase electricity costs by 17%, and reduce food availability for needy families—all while providing additional tax breaks to billionaires. He voiced his concerns by stating “All to award more tax breaks to billionaires.”
In another post on July 3, Doggett criticized many of his Republican colleagues for their allegiance to former President Trump. He acknowledged Republican Senator Tillis as an exception who recognized that “‘this bill will betray the promise Donald Trump made,’” while others followed suit without question.
Lloyd Doggett has served in Congress since replacing J.J. Pickle in 1995 and previously served in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. Born in Austin, Texas in 1946, he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with both a BA and JD.
