Lloyd Doggett, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district, has been vocal on various pivotal issues affecting the nation. Doggett, a seasoned politician with a formidable legislative career, has recently shared his perspectives on several key concerns primarily revolving around the current administration’s policies, national security, and civil rights.
In a tweet on April 29, 2025, Doggett highlighted findings from a report card on President Trump’s first 100 days. He notes that “Trump’s 100-Day Report Card is in: 60% think Trump is taking our country down the WRONG track. Nearly 2 out of 3 Americans are against his disastrous tariff tax, with 71% expecting it to worsen inflation.“
In a subsequent post on the same day, Doggett addressed a security concern involving key technological and political figures. “Our families’ safety again threatened by Musk/Trump’s DOGE gaining access to classified networks that hold highly guarded details about America’s nuclear weapons,” Doggett warns, pointing out that “a former SpaceX intern and Miami-based venture capitalist with no security clearances should never have access to” such sensitive information.
Turning his focus to civil rights, Doggett affirmed his efforts in protecting the rights of all Americans in a later tweet. On April 29, he declared his commitment by stating, “While Republicans undermine LGBTQI+ rights, I’m working to protect every American by explicitly prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.” As the Vice Chair of the @EqualityCaucus, he also urged support for the #EqualityAct and called for Speaker Johnson’s action in this regard.
Lloyd Doggett, born in Austin, Texas, in 1946, has served in Congress since 1995. He succeeded previous U.S. Congress member J. J. Pickle, after previous roles in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. Doggett holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, both a BA and a JD, with his career rooted firmly in veteran legislative service.
