Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 37th district and long-serving member of Congress since 1995, posted a series of messages on his official Twitter account addressing Memorial Day, Middle East policy, and expressing condolences.
On May 25, 2026, Doggett commemorated Memorial Day by stating, “On this Memorial Day, we pause to remember the extraordinary men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Let us honor them, and their families, by recommitting ourselves to the values they fought to uphold.”
The following day, May 26, 2026, Doggett commented on policy issues in Israel and the occupied territories: “Dangerous, deadly, wrongheaded policy in Israel and the occupied territories is bigger than Trump or Netanyahu alone. As Senator @ChrisVanHollen so correctly notes, without substantial change, many more will die and families here and there will be more endangered.”
Also on May 26, he offered condolences via social media: “Our deepest condolences to Ed, her entire family, many friends and admirers.”
Doggett has represented Texas’s 37th District in Congress since replacing J. J. Pickle in 1995. He previously served in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. In recent elections, Doggett secured victories over Jenny Garcia Sharon—winning with approximately three-quarters of the vote both in 2022 (76.8%) and in 2024 (74.2%). Born in Austin in 1946 and a lifelong resident of the city, Doggett earned both his undergraduate degree (1967) and law degree (1970) from the University of Texas at Austin.
