Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 37th district, shared a series of posts on social media between May 26 and May 27, 2026, highlighting local leadership, federal spending concerns, and environmental preservation.
On May 26, Doggett paid tribute to a community leader in Austin: “Cathy McHorse has been a valued leader for most every initiative benefiting young children in Austin over the last decade, including important Travis County funding. Libby worked very closely with her, and we were so saddened by her sudden, untimely passing.”
Later that day, he criticized former President Donald Trump regarding the use of taxpayer funds: “While many families struggle to afford basics like groceries and gas, Trump created a slush fund with $1.8 billion taxpayer dollars. January 6 insurrectionists and other Trump pals and criminals can file bogus claims of wrongful government targeting to secure cash rewards.”
On May 27, Doggett recognized conservation efforts in Texas: “Excellent profile of my good friend Andy Sansom, responsible for preserving over half a million acres of Texas land for future generations to enjoy one of our Nation’s greatest treasures: its natural beauty.”
Doggett has represented Texas’s 37th district since 1995 after replacing J.J. Pickle in Congress. He previously served in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985 and was born in Austin in 1946. Doggett earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. In recent elections, he secured significant victories against Jenny Garcia Sharon in both the 2022 and 2024 general elections.
