Lloyd Doggett, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district, has recently expressed his views on several issues through social media posts. Doggett, who has been in office since 1995 after succeeding J.J. Pickle and previously served in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985, addressed various topics ranging from leadership changes to international broadcasting and drug pricing.
On May 11, 2025, Doggett criticized a decision he described as “petty” and “disrespectful,” stating that it was made without justification against an esteemed leader who had bipartisan support. The congressman did not specify the individual or context but emphasized the lack of reasoning behind the move (“Another petty, disrespectful move with no justification given against an outstanding leader who enjoyed bipartisan support.”).
The following day, May 12, Doggett commented on what he perceives as former President Trump’s concession to adversaries by dismantling Radio Free Asia. He highlighted its significance as a response to Tiananmen Square events and expressed concern over Chinese propaganda now going unchallenged under Xi Jinping’s leadership (“Trump continues to surrender to our adversaries by dismantling Radio Free Asia…”).
Later that day, Doggett addressed issues related to pharmaceutical pricing. He criticized Trump’s executive order on drug prices as ineffective in ensuring affordable medication access for taxpayers and consumers. He argued that appealing for benevolence from pharmaceutical companies would not address price gouging concerns (“Begging Big Pharma to show some benevolence…”).
Doggett was born in Austin, Texas in 1946 and continues to reside there. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with both a BA (1967) and JD (1970), he remains actively involved in legislative matters impacting his constituents.
