Lloyd Doggett, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 37th district since 1995, has recently used his social media platform to comment on gun safety laws, gerrymandering, and healthcare industry practices.
On July 15, 2025, Doggett criticized recent legislative decisions in Texas regarding firearm regulations. He stated: “Firearms are the leading cause of death for kids, yet TX GOP/Gov. Abbott banned red-flag laws, which let Courts temporarily remove guns from those at risk of harming themselves or others. Three yrs after Uvalde, GOP sides w/NRA lobbyists over kids’ lives.”
Later that day, Doggett addressed the issue of electoral district boundaries and voting rights. In a tweet posted at 23:34 UTC he wrote: “Fighting crooked gerrymandering is not about protecting congressional seats, it is about protecting democracy. At Trump’s request, Republicans are trying to pick their voters instead of letting voters pick their leaders.”
On July 16, 2025, Doggett turned his attention to the healthcare sector and corporate conduct. He posted: “Instead of intimidating and silencing rightful critics like Austin surgeon @EPotterMD, UnitedHealth should focus on streamlining access to care for consumers and promptly paying providers. I continue to press @TheJusticeDept to expand its investigation into wide-ranging claims”
Doggett has represented Texas’s 37th district in Congress since replacing J.J. Pickle in 1995 and previously served in the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1985. Born in Austin in 1946 and currently residing there at age 76, Doggett graduated with both a BA and JD from the University of Texas at Austin.
