Lloyd Doggett, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 37th district since 1995, recently addressed several pressing issues via social media. Born in Austin, Texas in 1946 and an alumnus of the University of Texas at Austin, Doggett has been a consistent voice on various national and international matters.
On May 5, 2025, Doggett expressed his concerns regarding Republican plans to cut funding for environmental initiatives that impact local communities. Specifically, he mentioned that these actions would threaten “$105M for the City’s Cap & Stitch portion from Cesar Chavez to Fourth Street” in Austin. He elaborated on his opposition during a conversation with CBS Austin. “Republicans are preparing to strip funds for communities to address environmental challenges and connect our neighborhoods.”
The following day, on May 6, Doggett criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies towards Palestinians. He accused Netanyahu’s government of “abandoning hostages” and implementing measures that exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Palestinian territories by blocking essential supplies like food and medicine while continuing military actions against civilian infrastructure such as schools and hospitals. “Netanyahu undermines Palestinian and Israeli futures.”
In a subsequent post made moments later on May 6, Doggett condemned Hamas’ actions but stressed that their misdeeds do not justify the ongoing hardships faced by Palestinians. He also highlighted global silence over these issues as troubling. “Hamas’ evil cannot justify these horrible wrongs.”
These statements reflect Doggett’s long-standing engagement with both domestic policy and international human rights issues.
