Lloyd Doggett, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district, has shared insights on various issues through his recent tweets. With a political career that began in the Texas Senate and transitioned to Congress in 1995, Doggett continues to engage with constituents and comment on national policies.

On May 9, 2025, Doggett expressed concerns about the impact of Republican policies and former President Trump’s tariffs on local businesses in Austin. He stated, “Republicans’ chaotic policies and Trump’s tariff taxes are unleashing big challenges for Austin businesses. Trump’s tariffs mean higher prices, eventual shortages, and some small business closures.”

The following day, May 10, 2025, Doggett commented on Elon Musk’s financial dealings in Washington D.C., suggesting potential fiscal repercussions for taxpayers. He remarked that Musk’s departure from D.C. could result in costs rather than savings: “Beginning with a chainsaw, ending in a whimper, Musk will exit D.C. probably costing taxpayers, not saving promised $2 trillion.” He encouraged readers to learn more about what he termed as Musk’s “boomeranging chainsaw.”

Later that same day, Doggett attended a Bat Mitzvah at Congregation Beth Israel to celebrate Edith Holland’s coming-of-age ceremony alongside her mother Sarah Holland. Sarah previously served as Doggett’s District Director. He tweeted about the event saying: “At Congregation Beth Israel celebrating the Bat Mitzvah of our impressive friend, Edith Holland, with her mother, Sarah.”

Lloyd Doggett was born in Austin in 1946 and has lived there throughout his life. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with both a BA and JD degree by 1970, he has dedicated much of his career to public service.
