Lloyd Doggett, currently serving as the U.S. Representative for Texas’ 37th district, recently shared a series of posts addressing international cooperation in disaster response, advocacy for reproductive rights, and concerns over federal education funding delays. Doggett has represented his Austin-based district in Congress since 1995 and previously served in the Texas Senate.
On July 14, 2025, Doggett expressed gratitude for international support following a local tragedy: “With so many still missing from the Kerr County catastrophe and the need for grieving families to get as much closure as possible, I appreciate the assistance of the Czech Republic, one of our strongest allies. As chair of our Czech Caucus, I extend sincere thanks to this”.
Later that day, Doggett welcomed constituents and advocates visiting Washington on a somber anniversary. On July 14, 2025 he posted: “Though they were in Washington under tragic circumstances marking the third anniversary of Dobbs denial of rights, I welcomed Austinites Amanda Zurawski and Kaitlyn Kash, along with fellow abortion advocates Megan Bond, Sarah Hansen, and Sara Outterson. Their heartbreaking”.
In another post on July 14, 2025 Doggett highlighted concerns about delays in federal funding for public schools: “Together with @RepLucyMcBath and other Democratic colleagues, we are demanding answers from the Office of Management and Budget over its delay of nearly $7 billion in K-12 funding. Our underfunded public schools can’t afford more staff cuts or delays in essential student”.
Doggett was born in Austin in 1946 and has lived there throughout his life. He earned both his BA (1967) and JD (1970) from the University of Texas at Austin before beginning his career in public service.
