Joaquin Castro, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 20th district, has recently shared his thoughts and concerns through a series of tweets. Born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1974, Castro has been serving in Congress since 2013 after succeeding Charlie Gonzalez. His academic credentials include a BA from Stanford University and a JD from Harvard University.
On July 4, 2025, Joaquin Castro expressed concern over legislation he refers to as “The Big Ugly Bill”. He warned that the bill would negatively impact Texas families by eliminating SNAP benefits for children, reducing financial aid for students, and cutting support for long-term nursing home care. He stated that efforts to mitigate the damage caused by this legislation would begin immediately.
Later that day, Castro took a moment to acknowledge Independence Day with a tweet saying “Happy Fourth of July, San Antonio! Today we celebrate our country’s independence and freedom.” This message highlights his connection to his hometown of San Antonio and his celebration of national values.
In another tweet on the same day, Castro expressed his sorrow regarding recent flash floods in Kerr County. He tweeted “I am heartbroken to learn that several people have tragically lost their lives in the flash floods that struck Kerr County.” He urged residents to exercise caution and seek higher ground for safety amidst these challenging circumstances.
Joaquin Castro’s public service career began in the Texas House of Representatives from 2003 until he joined Congress in 2013. His educational background includes degrees from Stanford University and Harvard University.
