Joaquin Castro, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 20th district, recently shared his thoughts and experiences through a series of tweets. A long-standing political figure since succeeding Charlie Gonzalez in 2013, Castro’s reflections cover personal aspects of fatherhood, international diplomacy concerning Iran’s nuclear program, and local legislative issues like the Texas Dream Act.
On June 15, 2025, Joaquin Castro expressed his personal sentiments about fatherhood with a celebratory message on Father’s Day. In his tweet “Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there! Fatherhood has been one of the greatest joys of my life.”
The following day, June 16, 2025, he addressed international affairs by commenting on recent developments related to Iran’s nuclear program. He stated “This is a good sign and could provide a path back towards a negotiated agreement—the only proven way to address Iran’s nuclear program.” He emphasized the need for de-escalation between Israel and Iran and urged for renewed negotiations that had previously been disrupted by military actions.
On June 18, 2025, Castro turned his attention to state legislation with a focus on the Texas Dream Act. He highlighted its positive impact by saying “The Texas Dream Act has invested in Texas Dreamers and given them a fighting chance at achieving their dreams.” The congressman warned against undermining this law due to its significant contributions to various sectors such as healthcare, energy, and technology which have spurred economic growth in Texas.
Joaquin Castro was born in San Antonio in 1974 and holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Harvard University (JD). Prior to his current role in Congress which began in 2013, he served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2003.
