Joaquin Castro, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 20th district, has shared his views on various topics through recent tweets. Serving in Congress since 2013 after replacing Charlie Gonzalez, Castro is known for his commitment to public service and education, having graduated from Stanford University and Harvard University.
On June 19, 2025, Castro reflected on military service in the United States by stating that “No place, no city or community in our country has a monopoly when it comes to military sacrifice.” He emphasized that service members are motivated by national values but expressed concern over political leaders potentially abusing this trust.
Later that day, Castro commemorated Juneteenth by acknowledging its significance as a celebration of freedom. He noted “Today, on Juneteenth, we celebrate 160 years of freedom.” He highlighted Texas’ role as the first state to recognize Juneteenth as a holiday in 1980 and called for continued efforts toward racial equality.
On June 22, 2025, Castro commented on presidential decisions regarding war. He warned against misconceptions about conflict resolution by asserting that “Too often Presidents mistake the initial acts of war as the conclusion to the conflict rather than the opening of a Pandora’s box.” He specifically mentioned President Trump in this context.
Joaquin Castro was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1974 and continues to reside there at age 48. Before his congressional career, he served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2003 to 2013.
