Joaquin Castro, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 20th district since 2013, has taken to social media to express his concerns regarding recent legislative developments. In a series of tweets posted on May 22, 2025, Castro addresses issues ranging from healthcare costs to economic policies.

In one tweet, Castro criticizes Republican policies by stating “I want to be clear: Republicans are pulling a reverse Robin Hood — taking from the most vulnerable and giving to the rich.” He highlights the impact of rising interest rates, increasing grocery prices, and chaos attributed to Trump’s tariffs.

Another tweet emphasizes the local impact on his constituents in Texas’ 20th district. Castro notes that “Nearly 150K Texans in my district rely on Medicaid for their healthcare,” adding that health insurance premiums under the ACA could see a significant increase. He also underscores SNAP’s role in supporting seniors and veterans.

Finally, Castro discusses the legislative process and encourages civic engagement. He mentions that “This legislation now moves to the Senate before it goes to President Trump.” Despite this progression, he urges continued activism through calls, stories, town halls, and other forms of engagement.

Joaquin Castro was born in San Antonio in 1974 and has an educational background from Stanford University and Harvard University. Before joining Congress in 2013 as Charlie Gonzalez’s successor, he served in the Texas House of Representatives for ten years.
