Joaquin Castro, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 20th district since 2013, publicly questioned the Trump Administration about its response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank in a series of posts on July 23, 2025.
In his first post, Castro described the situation as dire: “Every day in Gaza and the West Bank brings us fresh horrors of starving children, civilians killed by snipers as they seek out food, and entire families wiped out by the IDF. Today, I asked the Trump Admin about their plan to end this humanitarian crisis.” (July 23, 2025).
He continued his criticism of U.S. policy toward the conflict with another statement: “I reminded the Trump Admin that there is NO justification to turn a blind eye to five- and six-year-old children who are starving to the bone.” (July 23, 2025).
Castro also addressed previous attacks in the region while urging accountability from Israeli leadership: “I have repeatedly joined my colleagues on @HouseForeign condemning the brutal attack on October 7 committed by Hamas. Our government must now condemn Netanyahu’s government and hold them accountable for the horrors they are committing to the Palestinian people in Gaza and the” (July 23, 2025).
Joaquin Castro has represented Texas’s 20th District since succeeding Charlie Gonzalez in Congress in 2013. Before serving at the federal level, he was a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 2003 to 2013. Born in San Antonio in 1974, Castro continues to reside there. He holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
