Joaquin Castro, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress from Texas’ 20th district, has recently voiced strong opinions on national security, social services, and American foreign policy via a series of tweets. Castro, who has served in Congress since 2013 after a decade in the Texas House of Representatives, has used his platform to address issues that he perceives as critical.

On April 21, 2025, Castro criticized Pete Hegseth in a post, stating “Pete Hegseth continues to put our national security and service members at risk. He’s demonstrated that he’s not up for the job. He should either resign or be fired by the President.” This comment indicates Castro’s concern over national security matters and hints at a lack of confidence in Hegseth’s capabilities in fulfilling his role.

A day later, Castro highlighted his involvement in community initiatives. On April 22, he tweeted “It was great to join @RepSylviaGarcia in East Aldine for a town hall to discuss the journey ahead to protect Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, and other benefits for our seniors. Thank you for joining us and sharing your stories.” This engagement reflects his commitment to discussing and safeguarding key social benefits.

On April 23, Castro addressed international concerns, posting “These proposed changes have serious implications for American foreign policy and diplomacy, undermining our credibility as a global partner and creating vacuums for our adversaries to occupy.” His statement points to potential diplomatic challenges and the risks posed by changes in policy to the U.S.’s standing on the global stage.

Born in 1974 in San Antonio, Texas, Castro continues to reside there. He is a Stanford University graduate with a BA and holds a JD from Harvard University.
