Joaquin Castro, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 20th district, voiced concerns over actions from past and current U.S. administrations in a series of tweets. Castro, who has served in Congress since 2013 after succeeding Charlie Gonzalez, uses his platform to draw attention to immigration practices and structural changes within federal agencies.
On April 30, 2025, Castro addressed a case involving the deportation of a young U.S. citizen. He wrote, “The Trump Administration illegally deported, against his mother’s will, a 4-year-old U.S. citizen with Stage four cancer. Tell me – what crime did this child commit?” Castro highlighted concerns about how such actions from the government could endanger the rights of Americans.
Later on the same day, Castro commented on the current administration’s actions, stating, “The Administration is working to dismantle agencies, like USAID and the Millennium Challenge Corporation, that were established by law. These actions do not make us safer, stronger, or more prosperous.” The tweet suggests a criticism of moves perceived as undermining established governmental structures.
On May 1, 2025, Castro made another post on the topic of immigration enforcement. He claimed, “Donald Trump relied on compliant ICE officers to obey illegal orders and deport three U.S. citizen children to Honduras. These ICE officials must search their conscience — and we, as Americans, must push back.” This statement underlines his call for accountability and moral reflection among those executing contentious deportation orders.
Joaquin Castro, born in San Antonio, Texas, holds a BA from Stanford University and a JD from Harvard University. Before his congressional role, he served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2003 to 2013.
