Joaquin Castro, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 20th district and a San Antonio native, addressed several issues impacting Texans in a series of tweets posted on July 15 and 16, 2025.
On July 15, Castro invited residents to participate in a community discussion: “San Antonians, join my Telephone Town Hall tonight at 7pm CT to discuss the Big Ugly Law’s impact, Gov. Abbott’s plan to redraw the Congressional Texas map, and recovery efforts after devastating floods. RSVP below See you tonight!” He used the platform to engage constituents on recent legislative developments and disaster recovery.
The following day, Castro highlighted the role of public education and federal support for schools: “Public education is a part of the infrastructure of opportunity that uplifts folks for their entire lives. The Department of Education supports our schools and students—providing special education, preventing discrimination, and distributing financial aid. Trump is decimating”. His remarks come amid ongoing debates about federal involvement in local school systems.
Later on July 16, Castro commented on recent economic policies affecting families: “We’re starting to see the effects of Trump’s tariffs. Hard working families could pay $2,800 more a year in rising costs. Texans can’t afford more reckless trade “deals.””
Castro has served in Congress since 2013 after replacing Charlie Gonzalez as representative for Texas’s 20th District. Before his tenure in Washington D.C., he spent ten years serving in the Texas House of Representatives. Born in San Antonio in 1974, Castro continues to reside there today. He holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
