Joaquin Castro, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 20th district since 2013, recently addressed issues related to renewable energy and public broadcasting in a series of posts on his social media account.
On July 17, 2025, Castro announced legislation aimed at supporting families who choose solar energy. He stated, “Families shouldn’t be punished for going green. My bill, the Sunshine on Solar Lending Act, would protect Texas families and their pocketbooks from hidden fees when making the switch to solar.”
The following day, Castro highlighted the role of public broadcasting in American society. On July 18, he wrote, “Thanks to Sesame Street, generations of children have embraced their curiosity with Elmo and learned math with The Count.
Thanks to public TV and radio—like @KLRN and @TPRNews in my district—millions of Americans can access reliable local news and receive life-savings public”.
Later that same day, Castro criticized recent funding cuts to public broadcasting by Republican lawmakers. He posted on July 18: “Last night, Republicans ripped away $1 billion for public broadcasting, including @NPR and @PBS.
Folks rely on public media for reliable news and educational programming. Over the years, public television has helped tell stories that are often forgotten or ignored. It has”.
Joaquin Castro has represented Texas’s 20th District in Congress since succeeding Charlie Gonzalez in 2013. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2003 to 2013. Born in San Antonio in 1974 and currently residing there, Castro is an alumnus of Stanford University (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
