Joaquin Castro, U.S. Representative for Texas’s 20th congressional district, posted a series of statements on his social media account addressing issues ranging from immigration enforcement to educational opportunities and the death of a refugee.
On February 25, 2026, Castro wrote: “I just learned that Juana wanted to meet with me last week when I inspected Dilley, but ICE hid all the pregnant women from me. Over the weekend, ICE deported her 36 weeks into her pregnancy. I am glad that Juana arrived without complications to her pregnancy and hope that she https://t.co/FW53vFqZQk”.
The following day, on February 26, 2026, he shared information about an annual event organized by his office: “Every year, my office gives San Antonio students the chance to learn about attending a U.S. Service Academy through our U.S. Military Service Academy Day. Students who are interested in attending one of the academies are encouraged to come and meet with school representatives https://t.co/CUrYG2Kgrr”.
Later that same day, Castro commented on the death of a refugee in New York: “I am devastated to hear of the passing of Nurul Amin Shah Alam. He was a refugee of the Rohingya genocide living in Buffalo, New York. Border Patrol agents wrongfully detained him and dumped him on the street in brutal winter conditions. Blind and walking with a cane, he died https://t.co/BPcbeKnstw”.
Joaquin Castro has represented Texas’s 20th congressional district since winning election in 2012 against David Rosa. He has consistently secured reelection by wide margins against opponents such as Jeffrey Blunt, Mauro Garza, and Kyle Sinclair in subsequent general elections.
