Joaquin Castro, currently serving as the U.S. Representative for Texas’ 20th district, has recently addressed several national and local issues through a series of public statements on social media. Castro, who has represented his district in Congress since 2013 after previously serving in the Texas House of Representatives, used his platform to comment on diplomatic staffing changes, upcoming community engagement events, and federal trade policy.
On July 12, 2025, Castro criticized recent actions by former President Donald Trump regarding personnel at the State Department. He stated, “Trump is firing 1,300 of our dedicated diplomats at the State Department. These are committed public servants who represent the United States and advance our nation’s values. Many have received years of training, learned many languages, and have dedicated their lives to public”.
On July 14, 2025, Castro invited constituents to participate in an upcoming Telephone Town Hall focused on both local and national concerns. He announced via social media: “TOMORROW: Join my Telephone Town Hall July 15 at 7pm CT. I’ll discuss issues facing San Antonio and the nation, including:
-The Big Ugly Law’s impact on healthcare and more
-Gov. Abbott’s undemocratic plan to gerrymander Texas
-Recovery efforts after devastating floods

Later that same day, Castro commented on recent changes to trade policy affecting grocery prices in Texas. He wrote: “Texans don’t want Trump’s tomato tax. The president promised to lower grocery prices. Instead, his latest trade ‘deal’ is making tomatoes more expensive for hard working families.”
Joaquin Castro was born in San Antonio in 1974 and continues to reside there today. He holds a BA from Stanford University (1996) and a JD from Harvard University (2000).
