The House Judiciary Committee has moved forward with the “FACE Act Repeal Act of 2025,” a legislative proposal introduced by Representative Chip Roy from Texas’s 21st district. The bill aims to repeal the FACE Act, which Congressman Roy argues has been used unfairly against pro-life individuals.
Representative Roy expressed his concerns about the implementation of the FACE Act, stating: “The FACE Act has been undeniably – and predictably – weaponized to target pro-life Americans while turning a blind eye to the destruction, vandalism, and even firebombing of pregnancy resource centers and churches.” He cited data obtained from Merrick Garland’s Department of Justice indicating that 97% of prosecutions under the FACE Act between 1994 and 2024 were directed at pro-life advocates.
Roy highlighted cases involving diverse individuals affected by these prosecutions: “an elderly death camp survivor, a progressive activist, a 75-year-old grandmother, and a father of seven being prosecuted and even given time in jail.”
He emphasized his stance on federal laws: “Our federal government has too many unnecessary laws that can be abused and weaponized against the people. No American should have the heavy hand of the federal government come down on them simply because they’re speaking out for – or against – life, regardless of who is in control of the executive branch.”
In addition to acknowledging Chairman Jordan’s support in advancing this legislation through committee, Roy called for further action: “I am grateful that my colleagues answered the call and passed H.R. 598, the FACE Act Repeal Act out of committee.”
He also referenced past presidential actions related to this issue: “While President Trump has rightfully pardoned FACE Act defendants unfairly prosecuted under President Biden, Congress must bring this bill to the floor and send it to the President’s desk, ensuring that no future administration can weaponize this law against pro-lifers ever again.”
