Lloyd Doggett, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district since 1995, has been active on social media regarding various issues from local community events to national politics. Doggett, who succeeded J. J. Pickle and previously served in the Texas Senate, shared his thoughts on several matters via his public Twitter account.
On April 26, 2025, Congressman Doggett tweeted about a local community event, writing, “Cycling to Marshall Middle School sponsored by Parents Climate Community in the Mueller neighborhood. Another important local effort to highlight the importance of responding to the climate crisis.”
The following day, on April 27, 2025, he addressed economic concerns related to international trade and monetary policy, cautioning, “If planning a trip or buying anything abroad, expect to pay more. In addition to tariffs Trump is imposing, the international value of our dollar has declined. Not satisfied with only attacking our democracy, Trump is also coming for your paycheck.”
On April 28, 2025, Doggett commented on the political actions of former President Trump in his second term, stating, “It’s hard to see how Trump would’ve acted any differently if he were a Russian asset than how he has acted in the first 100 days of his second term.” He added that Trump seeks every opportunity to help Putin, facilitated by what he perceives as congressional GOP silence.
Doggett, a Texas native born in Austin in 1946, holds both a BA and a JD from the University of Texas at Austin and continues to reside in his hometown.
