Lloyd Doggett, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 37th district, has recently shared his views on various political matters through social media posts. These tweets reflect his positions on foreign policy and domestic fiscal issues.

On May 13, 2025, Doggett expressed satisfaction regarding the release of Edan Alexander, an American citizen previously held by Hamas. He stated that former President Trump played a crucial role in securing Alexander’s release, bypassing Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. According to Doggett’s tweet, Netanyahu had allegedly abandoned hostages for political objectives as confirmed by their families: “Great joy with the release of Edan Alexander…”

In another tweet on the same day, Doggett criticized House Republicans for what he described as a lack of seriousness about fiscal responsibility. He argued that their budget reconciliation bill would exacerbate national debt and threaten programs like Social Security: “House GOP proves again this week…”

Later that day, Doggett addressed tax legislation in a separate post. He highlighted issues within the current tax code which he characterized as having numerous loopholes benefiting wealthy individuals and corporations. He accused the GOP’s tax bill of further entrenching these advantages at the expense of ordinary Americans: “Our Swiss cheese tax code is full of loopholes…”

Lloyd Doggett has been serving in Congress since 1995 after succeeding J.J. Pickle. Born in Austin, Texas in 1946 and currently residing there, he holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
