Lloyd Doggett, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 37th district, has conveyed varied issues through his social media posts. Doggett, who has been serving since 1995 after succeeding J.J. Pickle, discussed topics ranging from educational achievements to policy critiques in his recent tweets.
On April 21, 2025, Doggett celebrated the achievements of a team from his alma mater. He stated, “Congratulations to Team @UTAustin on being one of the top three finalists at the @EUintheUS #SchumanChallenge! These bright Longhorns competed against 27 different universities, sharing ideas on ways to improve our important Trans-Atlantic relationship.”
On April 22, 2025, Doggett criticized former President Donald Trump’s proposals, highlighting potential impacts on education. He remarked, “Next on Trump’s assault on educational opportunity—abolish Head Start—essential support for 800,000+ children, including over 50,000 TX children. Trump would deny children early education, meals, and health care.”
The same day, Doggett commented on the trade policies of Trump’s administration, referencing a conversation with a key official. He noted, “While Trump’s top trade official, USTR Ambassador Greer, told me that no exemptions to steep import taxes would be granted to anyone like the special treatment accorded to GOP supporters during the first Trump administration, Trump signaled his readiness to grant such special treatment.”
Many know Doggett for his longstanding public service career, including his role in the Texas Senate before joining Congress. Born in Austin in 1946, he graduated with a BA and a JD from the University of Texas at Austin in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
