In a series of tweets, Joaquin Castro, a member of Congress representing Texas’ 20th District, addressed policies by the Trump Administration regarding deportation and their impact on various communities. Castro, an advocate for the Spanish-speaking community, has been vocal in his concerns over these policies, reflected in his recent public statements on social media.

On April 28, 2025, Castro highlighted his concerns about the administration’s deportation policies, claiming that the government is forcing parents to choose between leaving their children behind or taking them with them during deportation. He stated on his Twitter account, “The Trump Administration has been very clear and given parents in this country no choice—we are going to deport you without due process. Leave your children behind or take them with you. I’d like the Administration to explain how deporting young children who are U.S. citizens,” alluding to the impact on U.S. citizen children.

The following day, on April 29, 2025, Castro expressed concern over what he perceives as targeting of the Spanish-speaking community, saying, “This targeted attack on the Spanish-speaking community will lead to more racial profiling and prevent hard-working Americans from participating in our economy and transportation industry.” This comment reflects his apprehension about the racial and economic consequences of such targeting.

Later that day, Castro communicated his actions regarding this issue, announcing, “Today, I introduced a Resolution of Inquiry (ROI) to direct the Trump Administration to provide Congress with all records relating to the removal of individuals in the United States to El Salvador. The Administration has provided no legal and legitimate justification for the” such deportations. This move is part of his broader efforts to scrutinize and hold accountable the decisions made by the administration.

He brings with him a significant legal education, having graduated from Stanford University and obtained a Juris Doctor from Harvard University.
