Rep. Chip Roy, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 21st district, has recently shared his views on several legislative issues through a series of tweets. Born in Bethesda, Maryland, and residing in Austin, Roy has been an active member of Congress since 2019 after succeeding Lamar Smith.
On June 6, 2025, Rep. Roy expressed his perspective on Medicaid reform within what he referred to as the “Big Beautiful Bill.” He stated: “We’re simply going to reverse a lot of the damage of the Biden administration and reverse a lot of the damage of the expansion of Obamacare by simply saying this, you shouldn’t be on Medicaid if you’re able bodied and can.”
In another tweet from the same day, Rep. Roy criticized certain tax cut policies as temporary measures that disguise their long-term impact. He remarked: “Here’s the little secret that everybody should understand. All of the new tax cuts expire after four years or five years. You want to know a classic Washington gimmick. That’s one… As I’ve said before in a speech, this is always the United States House of Free Crap.”
Later that day, Rep. Roy shared a link to his full 28-minute speech delivered on the House floor where he addressed various aspects of legislation and paid tribute to D-Day heroes. The tweet read: “WATCH: Rep. Roy’s FULL 28 minute speech on the House floor where he honors #DDay heroes, addresses the good, the bad, and the ugly in the Big Beautiful Bill, and more.”
Chip Roy holds degrees from both the University of Virginia and University of Texas-Austin and has dedicated his career to public service since taking office.
