Rep. Chip Roy, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 21st district, shared his perspectives on various legislative matters through a series of tweets on June 5, 2025. His statements addressed key issues such as a significant bill under discussion, cryptocurrency regulation, and artificial intelligence policy.
On June 5, 2025, Rep. Roy expressed his views on what he referred to as the “Big Beautiful Bill” during a conversation with Peter Schweizer. He stated, “I don’t really think the bill yet meets the moment. There are a lot of good things in it, and I voted for it to be a part of the team and try to work with the President to try to deliver, we’ve got historic levels of”. This comment highlights his cautious support for the bill while acknowledging its potential shortcomings.
Later that day, Rep. Roy discussed fiscal responsibility concerning cryptocurrency regulation. He noted “As important as DOGE is, and it is, and as much as we should codify the things that their team did, and we should, we also need to be mindful of the magnitude of the spending we’re talking about.” He emphasized eliminating wasteful expenditure while recognizing administrative efforts in this area.
In another tweet from June 5, 2025, Rep. Roy addressed concerns about artificial intelligence policy within the same legislative framework. He commented “We raised a fuss about it… I think we should be careful about that but states should be able to regulate it. We should fix that and allow states to be able to get involved.” Here he advocated for state-level regulatory involvement in AI governance.
Chip Roy has been serving in Congress since replacing Lamar Smith in 2019 and resides in Austin after being born in Bethesda in 1972. A graduate from the University of Virginia and holder of a JD from the University of Texas-Austin, he continues to represent Texas’ 21st District at age 50.
