Rep. Chip Roy, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 21st district since 2019, has expressed his views on recent events involving grieving families and political discourse through a series of tweets.
On July 7, 2025, Rep. Roy addressed the sensitive nature of ongoing efforts to find missing individuals and support grieving families. He criticized public behavior by stating “The finger pointing generally is just offensive when you’re dealing with trying to find bodies and trying to deal with families grieving,”.
Later that day, Rep. Roy shared a personal account of his experience with affected families. He tweeted about being present with those who had not yet found their loved ones, mentioning “Night before last, I had the unfortunate circumstance of being in the room with families that had not yet found their little girls… And there was a woman there, Mary Liz Eastland, who is the daughter-in-law of Dick Eastland.” He noted that Dick Eastland was among those who passed away.
In another tweet from July 7th, Rep. Roy condemned attempts to politicize the situation. He remarked “There’s a lot of people trying to politicize this… those people are going to be footnotes in the trash bin of history.” He praised individuals like Dick Eastland and others involved for their commendable actions during these challenging times.
Chip Roy was born in Bethesda, Maryland in 1972 and currently resides in Austin. A graduate from the University of Virginia with a BS degree in 1994 and holding a JD from the University of Texas-Austin earned in 2003, he continues his legislative work focused on representing Texas’ interests.
