Rep. Chip Roy, representing Texas’ 21st District in the U.S. Congress, recently shared a series of tweets addressing fiscal policy and government spending. Roy has been serving in this capacity since 2019, after replacing Lamar Smith. Born in Bethesda, Maryland in 1972, he now resides in Austin and holds degrees from the University of Virginia and the University of Texas-Austin.
On June 6, 2025, Rep. Roy discussed a legislative proposal on the House floor known as the “Big Beautiful Bill.” He stated “The President is right that we need to move a bill through here with tax cuts and spending restraint so that he can get the agenda done that he campaigned on. He’s 100% right, and we should do that.” Roy also mentioned Elon Musk’s support for this initiative.
Later that day, Roy addressed concerns over budget growth. He remarked “The truth is, our whole budget has grown from about 3.6 trillion a decade ago to 7.2 trillion.” Expressing dissatisfaction with minor reductions amidst significant budget expansion, he stated: “I’m sorry, I don’t think that’s good enough.”
Further emphasizing fiscal responsibility, Rep. Roy argued against deficit increases by saying “You can’t save the country if you’re adding to the deficit.” He highlighted concerns over interest rates and bond market reactions due to fiscal policies deemed irresponsible.
In his role as a congressman from Texas’s 21st District since 2019, Chip Roy continues to advocate for fiscal discipline while residing in Austin.
