U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on Apr. 16 that its recent recruitment expo in San Antonio drew a record number of participants, with over 500 attendees and nearly as many applications submitted during the three-day event.
The high turnout at the March career expo reflects CBP’s ongoing efforts to attract new talent to fill critical roles across the agency. With evolving security needs and increased demands on border operations, CBP continues to expand its workforce through direct outreach events.
According to CBP, 517 people attended the event, submitting a total of 495 applications—an average of 19 per hour—and achieving a conversion rate of more than 95%. Bob Simpson, Executive Director of CBP’s Talent Management Directorate, said, “Our mission is important, and we are determined to find individuals who are ready for challenging, meaningful work. Events like the San Antonio career expo are at the heart of this effort.”
Attendees had opportunities to speak directly with officers and agents about job requirements and daily responsibilities. The agency employs approximately 67,000 people nationwide; more than four out of five serve as officers or agents responsible for protecting communities and enforcing lawful trade and travel.
Recent federal funding has enabled CBP to offer new incentives aimed at both recruiting new personnel and retaining current staff members. These measures support broader administration initiatives related to border security. In addition to Texas events like this one, recruiters have visited more than two dozen states in recent months.
Simpson said that every day “CBP officers and agents show that dedication and professionalism matter,” inviting others interested in joining the agency’s mission for national security.
